Type S thermocouples are constructed using one wire of 90% Platinum and 10% Rhodium (the positive or "+" wire) and a second wire of 100% platinum (the negative or "-" wire). Like type R, type S thermocouples are used up to 1600 °C. In particular, type S is used as the standard of calibration for the melting point of gold (1064.43 °C).

Thermocouple Type N, is a relatively new thermocouple type and ???was billed as a replacement for the Type K thermocouple (the most common in industrial use), but without its drawbacks - Type N (Nicrosil-Nisil) exhibits a much greater resistance to oxidation-related drift at high temperatures than its rival, and to the other common instabilities of Type K in particular, but also the other base metal thermocouples to a degree. It can thus handle higher temperatures than Type K (1,280°C, and higher for short periods).

The Type B thermocouple are suited for use at upto 1800 °C. These are used in extremely high temperature applications. Specialty of B Type thermocouple is that it has the highest temperature limit in all the other type of thermocouple. These thermocouple produce the same output at 0°C and 42°C, limiting their use below about 50°C. The emf function has a minimum around 21°C, meaning that cold-junction compensation is easily performed, since the compensation voltage is essentially a constant for a reference at typical room temperatures.
